Julien Theys

Julien joined Screen Digest's mobile media team in July 2007. He is covering the mobile advertising market, smartphone operating systems, Venture Capital funding, M&A deals and mobile social networking. Julien authored industry reports on topics including mobile advertising, as well as on Google and Microsoft's mobile strategies. Prior to working for Screen Digest, Julien worked as a Brussels-based consultant for film producers and rights holders societies on issues such as European policies, tax incentives, video on demand and cinema market. He holds a Master of Science in Management from the Solvay Business School in Brussels.

Thanks to a slew of innovative devices, the higher end of the handset market has managed to weather the depressed economic climate. RIM's focus on messaging and data features, driven at first by professional users, secured the BlackBerry a very good spot at the start of the smartphone race. Price drops, together with free, open-source operating systems, will boost the mass-market adoption of cheaper smartphones, but Screen Digest expects the BlackBerry OS to drop to fourth place in smartphone OS market share in the next 36 months, behind Symbian, Android and the iPhone.
