Daniel Knapp, Senior Analyst, Head of Advertising Research

Daniel Knapp

As Head of Advertising Research at Screen Digest, Daniel is a regular voice at international events, bringing an informed and insightful mind to strategic advertising questions.

Daniel and his team forecast how economic, technological, regulatory and media consumption changes impinge on global advertising markets and what implications are for the strategic development of media companies.

In 2009, still as an analyst, Daniel was instrumental in launching Screen Digest's Advertising Intelligence service and has expanded it since for it to become one of the most in-depth and comphrehensive databases in the industry. It includes granular information such as the quarterly performance of key television broadcasters and places a high emphasis on emerging digital advertising formats: mobile advertising, online video, digital out-of-home, in-game advertising.

Drawing on his expertise, Daniel regularly advises clients ranging from international media companies and regulatory authorities to private equity firms. Apart from established Western markets, the advertising team has also developed particular expertise in emerging markets, such as in Central and Eastern Europe.

Daniel's commentary has appeared on national TV and radio and he is frequently quoted in the international consumer and specialist press (e.g. BBC, Financial Times, Independent, New York Times, Variety, Advertising Age, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Horizont). He is a regular speaker at conferences, round-tables and policy workshops.

Prior to Screen Digest, Daniel worked in media policy at the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) and as a Research Fellow at the European Institute for the Media, a media think tank, where he assessed the social impact of new technologies.

Apart from his position at Screen Digest, Daniel is also completing a PhD in media sociology and has published on topics such as online privacy and media literacy. His academic work focusses on the management of personal appearances and social connections in everyday media use.

Daniel holds an MSc degree from the London School of Economics and a B.A. in Government and Communication Sciences from the University of Erfurt, Germany. A German national, Daniel is also fluent in Dutch and French.
