North American box office reliant on leading films | 03 May 13 tags › The success of the top films in North America is crucial to whether the overall market has a good year or not. There is a high reliance on the top 30 films, out of the over 650 released in 2012, which makes theatrical distribution a cluttered but concentrated sector. This report highlights this point, using data to show the breakdown of n. American box office by box office range, as well as presenting the increasing release widths of films over the past decade.
Event Cinema in European cinemas | 11 Apr 13 tags › The market for Alternative Content or Event Cinema (it will be referred to as EC in this report) is now developing rapidly around the world. This is the first data-based study into EC on a European level, building on the work undertaken by IHS Screen Digest in the US and UK markets. The report presents an analysis of the supply of Event Cinema in a number of European countries in 2012, listing the number and genre of events, delivery formats and presentation formats of these events. This research is undertaken in association with Event Cinema Association and its members, as well as CinemaDigitaal (NL) and Nevafilm (Russia).

CinemaCon - Digital cinema: the journey is just beginning | 19 Apr 13 David Hancock, IHS Screen Digest's Director of Film and Cinema was invited to give the opening speech at International Day of CinemaCon 2013. The speech includes a detailed regional and territorial analysis of digital cinema progress, highlighting the areas that are struggling to convert. The presentation also touched on the technology that is present in cinemas and electronic distribution.
