Mobile Market Monitor: Handsets and Smartphones Q4 2012 | 11 Mar 13 tags › The fourth quarter as usual saw the mobile handset market received a seasonal boost, though lackluster macroeconomic conditions meant that shipments grew only 1.4 per cent from the same period in 2011. Smartphones however drove revenues up 15.8 per cent from last year aided by a huge boom in emerging markets such as China, plus another big launch quarter for Apple. The news was not so good for many OEMs including Nokia, HTC and Motorola.
Long awaited 4G UK spectrum auction will not live up to expectations | 23 Jan 13 tags › The UK government is auctioning off spectrum for 4G services after much delay. The UK is the last of the major European countries to auction spectrum for 4G which included the valuable digital dividend spectrum. As well as enabling high speed mobile internet access, the auction can shape the market for years to come depending on who wins what spectrum. While the auction will not come close to raising the amount seen in the bonanza 3G auction in 2000, the UK government is expecting a windfall of £3.5bn from the auction.
