This table shows the number of households in Western Europe containing at least one standalone Blu-ray Disc player or Blu-ray Disc recorder by profile type: 3D Blu-ray Disc (Profile 5.0), BD-Live (Profile 2.0), Bonus View (Profile 1.1) and Grace Period (Profile 1.0). The data given in the Blu-ray Disc households by player profile table indicates the number of households for which that profile represents the highest profile available within the home. Some Grace Period and Bonus View machines could be upgraded to make them complaint with the profile immediately above but these numbers show profiles recorded at the time of purchase. BD live (Profile 2.0) players cannot be upgraded to provide 3D playback. The 3D Blu-ray player household number does not include PS3 games consoles data which can be found via both Screen Digest?s Video and Games Intelligence services. This table shows Screen Digest's forecasts for Blu-ray Disc 3D (BD3D) software at consumer level in Western Europe. For the convenience of users it also includes our assessment of the number of 3D BD capable householdsWestern Europe, that is, households with a 3D TV set, a 3D ready (Profile 5 or higher) Blu-ray Disc player or Sony PS3 games console and the requisite glasses. The BD3D market overview data for Western Europe includes the number of BD3Ds sold to consumers, the average price of each BD3D unit and total consumer spending on the sector. To put the size of the BD3D sector into context, the table also includes equivalent data on the 2D BD sector. Total BD data may be obtained by adding the two together, or can be found in the BD tab of the 'Volume, value and average price' table located under Video software - retail (sell-through) on the Western Europe page. All volume data represents SKUs rather than individual discs, value and pricing data is presented in local currency (where relevant) dollars and euros and the dataset runs from the launch of BD3D in Western Europe to the end of Screen Digest's current forecasting period. Subscribers should note that distributor level data is not yet available for BD3D software.
