First half 2011 games hardware: handhelds represent moving target; consoles on track

First half 2011 sales volume for specialist games devices (consoles and handhelds) across the three major territories of PAL inc. Europe, USA and Japan, dropped just 2% compared to last year. Standout platforms included Xbox 360, up more than 15% for these territories and surprising strength for PSP and PS2, up 6% and 14% respectively. A stronger performance from 3DS, which has been slowly adopted, would have seen the overall sales volumes grow.
