February 19, 2010

Set-top box deals

- Pace

UK electronics manufacturer Pace will begin supplying British Telecom with a new set-top box (STB) to underpin the telco's BT Vision IPTV service. The hybrid, HD Vision+ box features a DVB-T tuner, a 160GB hard disk, and an ethernet port to allow the delivery of IP-encapsulated, pay-TV content.

- Technisat

German consumer electronics manufacturer Technisat has secured two STB deployments with Hungarian DTH and cable operator Digi. The SD, K3X DVB-C box, and the HD, MPEG-4 compliant HD4-CX will be used to support Digi's Conax-secured cable offering.

Conditional access deals

- Nagravision

US DTH operator Dish Network has renewed its conditional access (CA) agreement with Swiss CA-vendor Nagravision. On the heels of Dish's moving its subscribers to the Nagravision CA system, the two have signed a 10-year extension whereby the current CA platform – and successive iterations of it – will secure Dish's service.

Middleware deals

- Microsoft

Canadian telco Telus has selected Microsoft's Mediaroom middleware to support a refresh of its IPTV service in Alberta and British Columbia. The middleware platform will allow Telus to offer a multiroom digital video recorder (mDVR), buoyed by HomePNA networking. .
