German online movie store in2movies is to close on 11th June 2008. The service, which launched in 2006, operates in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The store is owned by Warner Bros. and Arvato Mobile and offers movies for digital rental and digital retail.

Our take...
In Germany the in2movies store suffered from competition from a range of services including T-Online's Videoload, Maxdome and Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace. Sales volumes from in2movies are likely to have been low due to the narrow content offering – the store offered movies from only one major Studio (Warner). A limited catalogue, coupled with the lack of a device strategy and the low margins associated with browser-based stores will have prevented the service from generating significant revenues.
