European independent distributors are to have a digital platform for promotion and distribution of their films to exhibitors. CN Films, French digital cinema consultancy and organisers of IDIFF, has received MEDIA Programme funding for D-Platform which will be a web-based meeting place for distributors and exhibitors. Exhibitors will be able to browse trailers and choose films which will be sent on to them once a screening agreement has been reached. CN Films has chosen Smartjog as the digital delivery system for D-Platform, including logistics and ensuring security. Eight European independent distributors are signed up for the early period of the project: Arthaus (Norway), Cinéart (Belgium), Frenetic (Switzerland), Haut et Court (France), Notro Films (Spain), Polyfilm (Austria), Rezo Films (France) and Soda Pictures (UK). CN Films will contribute half of the technical costs associated with a digital film release from one of these companies, using MEDIA money, as well as facilitating the technical aspects of a digital release. In line with fundamental principles behind digital cinema, the service does not seek to change the relationship between distributor and exhibitor nor affect the role of film booker, simply to create a digital way to do business away from 35mm.SmartJog provides a global distribution and file transfer platform, and is a subsidiary of French terrestrial transmission group TDF.
