Nokia roll out Music Store in the Netherlands
Nokia has launched its Music Store in the Netherlands offering single track downloads for 1 Euro each and albums from 10 Euros. Subscribers in the Netherlands will have access to a catalogue of over 2.5m tracks including content from Dutch artists. Users have the option of listening to a 30 second preview clip prior to purchase. A PC streaming service is also available for a 10 Euro monthly subscription. To promote the launch, Nokia is giving away an additional 5 tracks to the first 10,000 registrants to purchase 5 tracks in one go.
Our take... The Netherlands launch follows launches in the UK in November 2007, Germany in March 2008 and the more recent launch in Ireland earlier this month and sees Nokia persisting in its drive to release the Music Store in 9 countries by the middle of 2008. The network operators' reluctance to take on the Nokia Music Store enabled devices has been much publicised. T-Mobile Germany was rumoured to be unwilling to stock the handsets and just two out of the five UK operators initially accepted them. It remains to be seen how the service will fare in both Ireland and the Netherlands.
