Nokia is about to launch its Music Store in two more countries: Australia and France. The music service will be released in Australia on 22 April 2008. Tracks can be downloaded for $1.70 each and albums for $17. The PC music streaming service will be offered for $10. Nokia has signed 3 out of the 4 major labels for this service: Universal Music Australia, Sony BMG Australia and EMI, and is still in talks with the fourth, Warner Music Australia. Nokia has additional content deals with a number of Australian independent labels such as Shock Entertainment, Modular and Hillsong. An estimated 45% of the music content comes from local artists. Nokia is yet to confirm the exact launch date for the Music Store in France and no pricing information has been announced. In other European countries where the Music Store has been released, prices stand at 1 Euro per track and 10 Euros per album.
Our take...
The Nokia Music Store is already available in Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Singapore and the UK, bringing the company close to its target of being live in 9 countries by the middle of 2008. Despite resistance from mobile operators in the UK and Germany to the Store's initial launches, Nokia has continued to roll out its Music Store to additional territories. With no details currently available on the service uptake in the countries where it has been launched, it remains to be seen whether Nokia's persistence is paying off. </div>]
