Liberty Global has completed its acquisition of Czech cable operator Karneval. The €322.5m deal gives Liberty Global control of over 50 per cent of the cable market in the Czech Republic, adding Karneval's 253,000 subscribers to Liberty subsidiary UPC Czech Republic's existing 297,000. The deal makes the combined company by far the largest operator in the region, dwarfing the next largest operator, F.C.A, which has about 40,000 subscribers.

Separately, Belgian operator Telenet has completed its acquisition of Liberty Global's UPC Belgium. Liberty Global is the largest single shareholder in Telenet since boosting its stake to 28.07 per cent in November 2006. Following the sale, Liberty will consolidate the two companies for financial reporting.
