Poland is leading the latest European push towards HD with the launch of a range of HD channels on new satellite pay TV platform 'n'. The 'n' platform launched in Poland on October 12 with three channels in high definition: 'Discovery HD', an in-house sports channel 'nsport', and a Hollywood Film Channel. The channels will be central to each of the three premium packages (sports, culture/science, movies) costing PLN16 per month (€4). The basic MPEG-4 'nbox HDTV' carries a PLN99 (€25.3) activation fee and the 'nbox HDTV recorder', featuring a 250GB built-in hard disk, costs PLN449 (€114.6) for connection. In a separate development, US HD channel group Rainbow is to launch its 'best of' Voom HD channel on Nordic satellite pay TV platform Canal Digital, beginning as early as November in Sweden. Canal Digital is already transmitting 'C More HD' and 'SVT HD' in the four Nordic states (Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway).
