Japanese direct-to-home satellite pay TV operator Sky Perfect Communications (Sky PerfecTV) has acquired exclusive Internet protocol, mobile and TV broadcasting rights in Japan for UEFA Champions League football matches. Under agreement, Sky PerfecTV will broadcast three UEFA Champions League seasons from 2006 to 2009. Sky PerfecTV also intends to sub-license some of its communication satellite broadcasting rights to J Sports Broadcasting, terrestrial TV broadcasting rights to Fuji Television Network and IP broadcasting rights to Phala Networks. Nearly 3.3m people subscribed to the Sky PerfecTV pay TV service at end August 2006.
