Screen Digest's TV Technology Intelligence has extended updates to 2013. This includes all set-top box data, conditional access, middleware and TV sets.

Previous Screen Digest forecasts of 121m STB shipments in 2012 have increased to 130m as operators continue to digitise and start to replace legacy installed base with HD and PVR capable boxes. This is expected to remain stable into 2013 with 131m shipments total, of which over 40 per cent will be high-value HD and PVR boxes. Much of this new demand will be driven by service extensions and digitisation of pay TV platforms in Eastern Europe and the major emerging markets in Brazil, Russia, India and China, accounting overall for almost 70 per cent of 27m new annual set-top box shipments in 2013 relative to 2008.

In addition, Screen Digest project that, following a slight downturn in 2009, the TV sets market will grow at almost 7% CAGR to 2013 to reach almost 300m shipped in 2013. By this point, almost half of total TV sales globally will include an integrated digital tuner.
