The Supreme Court of the United States, in a 29 June 2009 decision, has denied an appeal filed by US content owners. Content owners had petitioned the Supreme Court to review an August 2008 ruling by the Second Circuit of the US Court of Appeals, which had upheld the legality of Cablevision's network personal video recorder (NPVR). The Supreme Court's refusal to review the previous ruling follows a Department of Justice recommendation that the Court not hear the appeal. Cablevision plans to deploy its NPVR by the end of summer 2009.
