Set-top box deals

- ADB
Italian pay-DTT operator Mediaset will deploy ADB set-top boxes (STBs) to support the launch of its interactive, HD services. The HD-compliant i-CAN3810T-HD box, which supports both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 compression, features an ethernet port to allow subscribers to access over-the-top (OTT) open-internet content, and MHP-based interactive services.

- Amino
Amino will provide Alaskan telco Matanuska Telephone Association (MTA) with its A130 and A530 STBs to support the operator's expansion of IPTV services. While both HD, MPEG-4 boxes will allow MTA to bolster its HD offerings, the PVR-equipped A530 will further allow MTA to spread the reach of its interactive, timeshifted offerings.

- Motorola
UAE telco Du has selected Motorola VIP1200E and VIP1216E STBs to maintain the growth in its HD and interactive services. While the HD, MPEG-4 VIP1200E will support du's expansion of pure HD IPTV services, the VIP1216E HD-PVR will reinforce Du's interactive offerings.

- Netgem
Australian telco Telstra has selected Netgem STBs to support the introduction of its T-Box service. The hybrid IP/DTT, MPEG-4 HD boxes will allow subscribers to access streaming IP content through Telstra's BigPond online portal, and to receive HD and SD Australian FTA-DTT programming. Telstra will launch T-Box in Melbourne before rolling the service out nationally.

- Pace
US cable operators Buckeye Cablevision, Mediacom, and Sunflower Broadband, along with the National Cable Television Cooperative, will be deploying Pace's Home Content Sharing (HCS) whole-home PVR. HCS is built around a central high-capacity hard disk, to which up to 3 dual-tuner, MPEG-4 HD STBs connect. Using MoCA 1.1 for networking, HCS allows the dual-tuner boxes to function as fully-fledged, fully-independent PVRs. This permits simultaneous recording of up to 6 HD streams, simultaneous viewing of 3 channels while recording 3 streams, or any combination thereof.

- Thomson
French electronics manufacturer Thomson has secured two new STB deployments. Pan-European cable operator UPC has selected Thomson's eco-friendly DC1602; the MPEG-2 SD-PVR uses less than 1W when on standby. Israeli cable operator HOT has chosen to continue its relationship with Thomson to support its HD launch. Thomson currently supplies HOT with MPEG-4 SD STBs which feature an integrated DOCSIS modem, NDS conditional access (CA), and OpenTV middleware.

Middleware deals

- Minerva
Vietnamese telco VTC Digicom will deploy Minerva's iTVManager middleware platform. The platform will subsequently allow VTC Digicom to deliver services ranging from on-demand, to PVR and network PVR (nPVR).

- OpenTV
Australian cable and DTH operator FOXTEL has chosen OpenTV's Core middleware to launch its newest platform. Core will support the extension of more HD offerings, and interactive features such as programme recommendations, news and weather feeds.

- Orca
Turkish electronics manufacturer AirTies has selected Orca's RiGHTV middleware platform for its newest IPTV STB. The 7224 box supports MPEG-4 compression, 802.11N connectivity to the wireless router, and a 7413 Broadcom chipset to render 3D-style graphics.
