Motorola has launched its IPTV ecosystem integration and support service having completed an integration project with US based fibre-optic services provider Connexion Technologies.
Our take...
This move was expected given the global reseller agreements with various IPTV conditional access and middleware vendors announced by Motorola over the last few months. Motorola already manufactures most of the hardware components needed to deploy an IPTV network but lacked its own IPTV conditional access and a strong middleware product. Reseller deals with Latens, Verimatrix, Widevine and Espial will give Motorola easy access to such technologies. Almost all tier 1 telcos have already launched IPTV services so Motorola has missed out on the most lucrative systems integration contracts. However, having so much of the technology "in-house" should allow Motorola to compete favourably on price with other systems integrators for business with smaller more budget conscious telcos.
