Broadcasting Strategies for Multiscreen Distribution
June 14, 2011 When Internet-based video is available on PCs and a variety of mobile platforms, how do traditional television providers compete? Within the consumer electronics ecosystem, individuals have access to an unprecedented array of connectable, video-enabled devices. IP connectivity, coupled with video processing, has been extended to smart phones, gaming consoles, TV sets, Blu-ray players, standalone IP set-top boxes, and naturally, the PC. With this has come the entry of a whole range of new content and service providers, using free online access to reach their audience. But does this mean the end of the traditional provider? Building upon IHS Screen Digest's extensive research in the area of CE devices, broadcaster strategy, pay-TV services, and network infrastructure, this presentation will explore why multiscreen is the future for content distribution, how pay-TV operators and broadcasters are seizing the opportunity presented by connectable devices, and how successful they have been in doing so, and the requirements for turning multiscreen into an economically viable venture. This presentation was made by senior analyst Tom Morrod at The 7th Annual Korea Communication Conference in Seoul in May 2011. Pages: 33Tags:
