Ultra High Definition TV: the full review of UHD-1 | 22 Apr 13 Following on from the initial presentation of research in February and March 2013, IHS has completed its world-leading summary of opportunity for UHD-1, Ultra High Definition television often referred to as 4k. In this presentation we extend our forecast period to 2025 and review not only the development of ecosystems needed (typified by the development of HD TV), but review each of the key trends in capture, TV sets, set-top box, pay TV strategy and TV channels strategy. Ultimately we expect the technical ecosystem for UHD to be mature and in the market by 2017, and commercial mass market to be attained around 2023. This presentation was given by Tom Morrod on behalf of SES in April 2013.

The future for linear TV | 27 Sep 11 Richard Broughton presented at IHS Screen Digest's TV Channels Seminar, in London 2011, addressing the subject of how much TV is consumed on a non-linear basis. With increasing concern from TV channels regarding the future of the broadcast TV business and how consumers will be viewing content in the coming years, Richard presented new IHS Screen Digest research quantifying the extent to which consumers are moving away from traditional linear TV, and gave an overview of how IHS Screen Digest believes that this behaviour will evolve over the next five years.
The European TV programme market | 27 Sep 11 This presentation by Tim Westcott at Screen Digest's TV Channels Seminar, in London on 15 September 2011 focused on TV programme expenditure in the five major European markets. Looking at annual data from 2000 to 2010, the presentation correlated what TV groups spent on programmes with annual revenues, looked at whether pay TV platforms have taken over from free-to-air broadcasters as the main investors in programming, and touched on key developments in each country.
Cord Cutting: Lessons from Europe (NCTA/Cable Europe breakfast session) | 21 Jun 11 Guy Bisson presented at the recent NCTA cable show in Chicago, highlighting key trends in the European cable industry and benchmarking it against the US cable business. A focus on cord-cutting in Europe looked at competition from DTT and IPTV and lessons that could be transferred to the US market.
