Further details published on Project Canvas - the free-to-access over the top video joint venture between the BBC, ITV, Five and BT - stress it will be an open platform, not a gatekeeper, an approach that may allow Canvas to avoid the same fate as Kangaroo, which was quashed by the Competition Commission. Nonetheless, Screen Digest believes that the proposals are fundamentally conservative, with the JV intending to retain control of its EPG - albeit on a non-exclusive basis - with pride of place going to the core broadcast JV partners. Significantly, the PSBs will have a majority share of the voting, giving BT and any further ISPs that come on board, little power to block unified broadcaster decisions.
