Slowdown in Digital Drive Threatens Hollywood's 3D Hopes

In this Company Report

The rate of conversion of cinema screens to digital, a necessary pre-condition for 3D, slowed dramatically in the US last year - a direct consequence of the collapse in the credit markets. Studios have much to gain from d-cinema conversion - in particular those that have invested heavily in 3D. Paramount, distributing Dreamworks Animation's all-3D slate, has opted to fund cinemas directly to fund conversion. A smaller base of 3D screens will significantly narrow the window of opportunity DWA and other studios are aiming for.
