International film trade with China

April 21, 2010

China has the potential to become one of the world's largest cinema markets, representing a real opportunity for international content producers. The State Administrator of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has created favourable conditions for all filmmakers to operate. However, policies still remain that favour local producers and films, such as the import quota system.

Chart summary: According to China Film Promotion International (CFPI) figures, the number of feature films produced in China has increased from 100 in 2002 to 456 in 2009. In addition to feature films, China produced 52 science and education, 27 animation and 19 documentary films in 2009, for a total of 554 film projects.
