European BD Tie Ratios to Stabilise

July 26, 2010

The number of DVDs bought each year by a DVD-enabled household - the DVD tie ratio, or buy rate - peaks in the first or second year after launch and then declines gradually over time. An ever-declining software tie ratio is a consistent metric worldwide across virtually all consumer electronics (CE) devices - CD players, games consoles and personal music players. According to this Screen Digest report, the current sales and forecasts indicate that Blu-ray Disc (BD) may buck this universal trend.

Tables and charts included:

  • Share of installed base accounted by BD players and consoles 2007 - 2014
  • Number of discs bought by video enabled households 2007 - 2014
