Multiplexes Reverse Mid-East Trend

July 07, 2010

Rampant piracy and the growing prevalance of cable TV has hampered the cinema market in the Middle East over the past decade. But the sector is returning to health, thanks to investment in new screens, and the introduction of digital 3D screens in the region. This report covers the cinema market in three countries: Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. Lebanon has the highest cinema admission rates of these markets; investment in the Lebanon cinema infrustructure is strong, and so is growth in box office revenues. Growth in Jordan cinema admissions is moderate, while data about the state run cinema industry in Syria is sparse.
