Mobile Market Monitor - Games Q2 2010
August 18, 2010 EA Mobile continues to lead the Western mobile games market with revenues of $52m for Q2 2010. Despite achieving growth for the 12th consecutive quarter, Q2 saw revenue growth slow to 4 per cent, the lowest since Q3 2007. Gameloft remained in second place in the Western market with revenues of $42.7m. Glu Mobile continued to decline, with revenues dropping to $16m, its lowest total since Q1 2007. Licensed action and sports titles dominated Q2 mobile games releases, as publishers released games to coincide with major summer movie launches and sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup. Overall, Q2 2010 saw another decline in the overall output of new titles from major publishers. Publishers continue to rely on established franchises while also experimenting with new ways to monetise games through microtransactions and advertising. Consolidation in the mobile games industry continued in Q2 2010 and early Q3, with major players including Disney, Google, Ngmoco and Zynga making acquisitions. Highlights:
