New apps give TV operators a way to make video pay
September 27, 2010 The mobile video market is currently undergoing a major revolution, focused on content and cross-platform integration. Mobile operators have revamped their mobile video strategy, moving from the traditional linear TV channels and video clips to movies, TV shows and catch-up content while Pay TV operators are using applications to convert their subscribers to higher-tier packages. As a result mobile video revenues in Western Europe and North America combined are set to pass Euro 0.5bn by the end of 2010. However, Screen Digest expects revenues to subsequently decline by 9 per cent in the next four years as free content and cross-platform bundles become predominant. Screen Digest estimates nearly two third of mobile video streams will be accessed free of charge by the end of 2014. In this report:
