Dish Network introduces AutoHop feature for its Hopper DVR; broadcasters line up at courthouse door

June 28, 2012

Fox Broadcasting, NBCUniversal and CBS Corp. all filed suit against Dish Network May 24, alleging it's new AutoHop ad-skipping feature is a violation of the terms in the licensing deals that allow Dish to retransmit their network feeds. Dish beat the networks to the courthouse door with its own suit earlier the same day asking for a declaratory judgment that the feature does not constitute copyright infringement. The balance between customer satisfaction and making money on advertising may never be the same.
