Asia-Pacific Piracy Still Rampant: Shift in operations toughens anti-piracy efforts

Organised criminal gangs with global networks are a key driver of piracy in the Asia-Pacific. Investigations into piracy during the first half of 2004 are up 42 per cent compared with a year earlier. Australia and Korea accounted for 80 per cent of DVD-R seizures in the first half of 2004. Asia-Pacific piracy is estimated to cost US motion picture industry $718m annually in potential revenues
