Screen Digest analysts, working in cooperation with Cue Entertainment magazine and in consultation with retailers, drew up detailed questions covering four key areas: general product/performance, sales, marketing and logistics/supply chain. Each question asked retailers to rate 13 leading UK video distributors (seven majors and six independents) on a scale of 1-5.
The questions were distributed in the form of a survey to leading retailers and wholesalers who between them generate at least 75 per cent of the UK's annual retail video sales by volume according to Screen Digest analysis of data from TNS Audio Visual Trak. The survey achieved an amazing 89 per cent response rate, indicating how keen retailers were to provide constructive feedback.
Report findings: - The overall verdict of the UK's retailers is that video distributors 'could do better'.
- The studios achieved more consistently high marks than the independents.
- Few trade sectors returned a unanimous excellent verdict on any questions.
